The Cottage
The cottage was built in 1830 and over the years has been developed by its previous owners. The lounge with the gallery above used to be a stable for the owners horse and the barn used to house chickens and pigs.
The dining hall was once the living room and if you look at the stairs you will see three large hooks. These are original features and were used to hang pieces of meat which the owners would eat, simply taking a slice at a time. On the floor below are the original flagstones which are engraved creating a gully which collected the animals' blood.
The Gardens
The gardens are maintained by local gardeners who have watched the gardens develop over the years. During spring and summer the gardens literally bloom with thousands of flowers. There are fruit trees including a banana tree, plums, pears, apples and cherries and in winter the gardens are a winter wonderland especially in the snow.
